From the Tattoo Shop to Tattoo Maps USA
I started tattooing around 1985. Back then, Salem didn’t have a tattoo scene to speak of, so if you wanted a tattoo, you went to Portland. We were here as things began to take hold, and Dave Lum came along a little while after us. I’m a Navy veteran, and we even tattooed in the paint locker aboard ship, though we weren’t supposed to. The Navy took me around the world. Back home, Bernie Mueller took me under his wing. He was recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most individual tattoos. Rest in peace, Bernie. A task-specific tremor in my hands means I can’t tattoo the public anymore, and I don’t have a shop now.
That’s what I’m doing with SalemTattoo.com and Tattoo Maps USA: building a nationwide directory to help people find good tattoo shops and help those shops get found, state by state. Listings are free, and they’ll stay free. This isn’t a tattoo shop, nobody tattoos here. ‘Shop’ means the online store.
Tattoo Maps USA is a nationwide directory of real tattoo shops. It helps people find good shops and artists in towns across the whole country. The Featured Shop package puts your shop front and center.
Listings on Tattoo Maps USA are free, and your free listing stays exactly as it is. Featured Shop is the paid upgrade on top of it: your own page, your banner in rotation in the advertising spot at the top of the directory pages, and your listing featured at the top of your town — $120 for one year.
What you get
- Your own page on Tattoo Maps USA, with your links, your pictures, and your colors and design. When you upgrade, your listing card changes to show only three things: your shop name (that is the link to your page), your city, and your state. No phone, address, or other links on the card itself — all of that lives on your page.
- Your banner in rotation in the advertising spot at the top of the directory pages.
- Your listing featured at the top of your town.
- Featured shops also take turns in the navigation spotlight — the link in the site’s top navigation that points straight to the featured shop’s page, changing each quarter.
The price
$120 for one year. One payment covers the whole year. No subscription and no auto-renewal. When the year is up, just buy it again to renew.
